This lot features a rare salesman sample of "The Klondike Gold Fields" written by A.C. Harris and published in 1897. The book is an abbreviated version of the full book, "Alaska and the Klondike Gold Fields" which provided a 19th century account of expeditions in Canada and Alaska, of the discovery of gold and ensuing population booms that followed. Of particular interest is the inclusion of native tribe life of Indians, slaves, and their cultural practices including cannibalism. The salesman sample was used to solicit orders for the book. This salesman sample features a wonderfully illustrated stamped gold gilt cover as well as a sample of the leather spine inside the back cover. Noteworthy is an official United State Survey fold out map of the Klondike & Yukon region. The book is in good overall condition, slight scuffing on cover edges, intact pages have age tanning, foxing, no other damages noted. Measures 6.25"W x 8.25"L x .5"D
