For your bidding pleasure in this lot is a Rare 1867 First Edition, "The Life of Sam Houston", by Charles Edwards Lester, published by John E. Potter and Company Philadelphia, PA. "The hunter, patriot, and statesman of Texas, The Only Authentic Memoir of Him Ever Published." Samuel Houston was an American general and statesman who played an important role in the Texas Revolution. He served as the first and third president of the Republic of Texas and was one of the first two individuals to represent Texas in the United States Senate. Charles Edwards Lester or C. Edwards Lester (1815-1890) was an American author and diplomat. Lester was born in Griswold, Connecticut, and was a descendant of Jonathan Edwards. He was of a roving disposition and traveled widely in the United States and Europe. The brown coloured clothbound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in nice condition, illustrated carved floral cover design, scuffing noted. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and slight foxing, loose spine. Measures 5"W x 7.5"L x 1.5"D, weight 1lb, 6oz.
