For your consideration is this Stetson 6 7/8" The Route 66 fur felt cowboy hat circa 1960-80s, sold in Martin's Western Store in Hardin, Montana. John B. Stetson established Stetson Hats in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1865. The late 19th and early 20th centuries saw a rise in popularity for Stetson hats as they came to symbolize the tough and risk-taking nature of the American West. Stetson hats were worn by cowboys, ranchers, law enforcement officers, and outlaws alike, solidifying the company's status as a representation of Western culture. Stetson grew his company in 1869 and relocated it to St. Joseph, Missouri, where it kept expanding. During its peak in the late 19th century, Stetson Hats rose to become the biggest hat manufacturer in the world. The classic cowboy hat, fedora, derby, and many other hat designs have been produced by Stetson Hats over the years. These hats are often crafted from high-quality materials, such as beaver fur, rabbit fur, and wool, and are known for their durability and craftsmanship. Numerous iconic figures, including Hollywood actors, musicians, and US presidents, have donned Stetson hats in popular culture. Innumerable Western movies have featured them, further solidifying their reputation as a representation of the American frontier past. Stetson Hats still makes a variety of hats today, appealing to both fans of the West and those who value fashion. While quality and tradition are still the brand's main priorities, Stetson hats have evolved to include contemporary design features and materials to appeal to a wider customer base. The hat features a leather sweatband, welted edge and soft fur felt construction. The Route 66 was Stetson's first crushable hat, featuring an iconic cattleman's crease. The hat was durable, rollable and travel-friendly. The band on the inside of the hat reads in gold gilt lettering, "No. 1 Quality Stetson / John B. Stetson Company / Martin's Western Store Hardin, Montana". The hat measures an inside circumference of approximately 20 3/4", a width of 14 3/8" and a height of 4 7/8". The hat shows good condition overall with the right side of the brim showing some curving, but no obvious signs of damage are present.
