The many Haynes photographs are what make this edition special. This is one of the early works on Yellowstone geysers. The vintage black and white photography captures the beauty and power of the geysers. Geysers are a natural phenomenon found only in a few places in the world thus they fascinate us with their behaviour and striking beauty. An early scientific examination of the geysers at Yellowstone National Park. The author was the park naturalist and used his geologic experience and the extensive catalogue of official photographs from the Haynes photographers to bring a very instructive and attractive volume. At the end of the book is an alphabetical reference list of over one hundred geysers with facts about each. A map of Yellowstone on pages 126 and 127 locates the different geyser basins, mud volcanoes, hot springs, etc... The book features a tan coloured clothbound hardcover with blue gilt lettering and illustration of an erupting geyser on the front cover.
