Presented in this lot is the Rare, "The Yellowstone National Park" by Hiram Chittenden, copyright Hiram M. Chittenden 1912, Seventh Edition and published by Stewart & Kidd, Cincinatti. The book provides a comprehensive description and guide to America's first national park. The book contains many illustrations and features a comprehensive description of Yellowstone with its wildlife and vegetation. Chittenden was a renowned historian of Yellowstone National Park and also was an Army Corps of Engineer officer in the park from 1891-1892 and 1899-1906 during which time he was in exclusive charge of the road work and general improvements, including the iconic basalt Roosevelt Arch at the northern entrance. Note, this revision was made by the author during the first year of his being elected as one of the first three port commissioners of the newly formed Port of Seattle in Washington state. Blue cloth bound cover is gold gilt embossed on front cover and spine, spine blue is faded. Slight scuffing noted on spine and cover otherwise cover is in good condition; foxing noted to pages throughout. Map is missing from rear inside cover. No other obvious marring noted, book is in overall good condition, measures 5.25"W x 7.75"L x 1.5"D
