For your consideration is the original edition, autographed book, "Thirty One Years On The Plains And In The Mountains" by self-described "Chief of Scouts" Capt. William F. Drannan, published 1900 by Rhodes & McClure Publishing Company, preface 1899.
Harvey L. Carter, author of one of the most authorative books on Kit Carson, asserts, "what was narrated as fact by 'this man' (sic) was actually a tissue of lies". Other historians believe Drannan, at worst, may be guilty of mixing fact and fiction in his books. Regardless of which one believes, this book is viewed as an important description of the American West.
