Featured in this lot is this 1909 edition of "Thirty One Years On The Plains And In The Mountains" by self-described "Chief of Scouts" Capt. William F. Drannan, published 1900 by Rhodes & McClure Publishing Company, preface 1899. "Thirty One Years On The Plains and in the Mountains or, the Last Voice From The Plains. An Authentic Record of a Life Time of Hunting, Trapping, Scouting and Indian Fighting in the Far West" by Capt. William F. Drannan who went on to the Plains when fifteen years old. Copiously illustrated by H. S. DeLay and Many Reproductions from Photographs". Harvey L. Carter, author of one of the most authorative books on Kit Carson, asserts, "what was narrated as fact by 'this man' was actually a tissue of lies". Other historians believe Drannan, at worst, may be guilty of mixing fact and fiction in his books. Regardless of which one believes, this book is viewed as an important description of the American West. This book is in good overall condition. Green cloth bound silver gilt stamped cover has minimal scuffing on edges, spine is loose from front cover. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout. No other obvious marring noted.
