Featured in this lot is this etching titled "The Half Dome-View From Moran Point" by Thomas Moran originally circa 1887. The artwork features a wonderfully and professionally crafted etching construction that shows a landscape half dome panorama scene with rock formations and a canyon in the distance with a eagle flying down to give the scene depth. The artist signature is printed in the bottom left hand corner with the date of '1887'. The etching is accompanied by a dust sheet with a quote that reads as follows: visions of ineffable beauty and harmony, health and exhilaration of body and soul, and grand foundation lessons in Nature's eternal love, are the sure reward of every earnest looker in this glorious wilderness." Thomas Moran (1837–1926) was a British-born American painter and printmaker best known for his dramatic landscapes of the American West. A central figure in the Hudson River School and Rocky Mountain School, Moran gained fame for his vivid depictions of Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, and other iconic natural wonders. His 1872 painting The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone helped influence the U.S. Congress to establish Yellowstone as the first national park. Moran’s work blended romanticism with topographical accuracy, and his art played a crucial role in shaping public perception of the American wilderness during the 19th century. The condition of this etching is well preserved with some light creasing to the bottom right and left hand corners but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this etching is 16 3/8" x 11 1/8". The collective weight of this etching is U4oz.
