Offered in this lot is a Thomas Moran, "A Snowy Mountain Range" Sepia Photogravure, circa 1920s. This sepia photogravure of the original which was painted in 1896, depicts a landscape of the Teton Mountains featuring Mount Moran from the Idaho side of the Tetons, which was named in honour of the artist. Moran was captivated by the Teton Mountain Range. As Albert Bierstadt claimed the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada for his art, so Moran made the Yellowstone region and the Grand Canyon his signature subjects. His dazzling watercolors of Yellowstone led directly to its designation, in 1872, as the first national park. A native of Great Britain and an ardent admirer of the English painter J. M. W. Turner, Moran used prismatic color to capture the splendors of the American West—such as this dramatic view of the Tetons, located just south of Yellowstone. Moran was involved in many expeditions into the western wilderness, bringing back images of the country that were previously unknown and helping familiarize the public with these places through his artwork. The sepia photogravure is in very nice condition for its age, no marring noted. Set in a lightweight hardwood frame, slight scuffing exhibited along the frame edges. Visible art measures 15.5"W x 19.75"L, frame measures is 17"W x 21"L.*
