The gauntlet feature a wonderfully and professionally crafted horse hide and hair construction that shows a mitten design with a thumb and a pocket for the rest of your fingers. Heavy stagecoach gauntlets, typically made of thick leather and lined for warmth, were essential gear for team drivers braving the rough trails and harsh weather of the frontier. These durable gloves protected drivers’ hands from rope burns, cold, and injury while managing reins over long, grueling distances. The gauntlets comes complete with an original museum tag that reads as follows: Horse Hair gloves. The condition of this pair of stagecoach gauntlets is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved overall condition.
