Vintage Turkish Dovetailed Hammered Copper Serving Set, including two (2) Round Wall Hanging Serving Trays, one (1) large Double Handled Water Pot, and, one (1) Ewer with Goose Neck spout. Will fit any Moorish, Bohemian, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern decor. Turkish handicrafts have a wide range of branches, but one of the most important is the art of coppersmithing. The copperware field, which used to produce valuable and daily use items in the past, today focuses more on handicraft products created mainly for decoration purposes. Anatolian lands, the cradle of coppersmithing in the world. The art of metalsmiths is one of the oldest arts of the Turks. For this reason, the Turks, who process metals, left many metal samples from before and after the Islamic period. Most metalworks that have survived today are copper items made with copper forging techniques. After the copper is hammered and shaped, patterns are usually etched on its surface. The technique of forging is used in the processing of copper. There are also several styles of engraving on copper. These are the styles called relief, scraping and openwork. Vases, flower pots, trays and various decorative ornaments are among the most sought-after handcrafted copper items. This hand hammered copper serving set includes dovetailing, intricate incised designs of floral and geometric shapes. Each tray has a ring attached to the reverse side for wall hanging. Largest tray has Arabic calligraphy incised on the upper right border. Smaller tray features a thick scalloped edging along the top rim. All pieces are of a heavy construction. Condition of the set is overall good for it's age and normal use. Scratches and slight dents observed. Nice rich patina throughout. Large tray is 22.5" diameter x 1"D, weight 5lb; small tray is 15.75" diameter x 1"D, weight 2lb, 8oz. Water pot is 14"H x 13"W at the handles, mouth is 6.25" diameter, base is 5.75" diameter, weight 4lb, 2oz. Ewer is 11.5"H x 7" base diameter, mouth is 2" diameter, weight 2lb.
