For your consideration are two 1914 Avery Company Manufacturers steam traction engines and attachments catalogs. In 1877 R. H. Avery and his brother C. M. Avery established a company bearing their names, in Galesburg, Illinois. R. H. had the inventive ability and C. M. excelled in the business end of the enterprise. They engaged in the manufacture of corn planters, stalk cutters and cultivators. In 1883 the company name was changed to the Avery Planter Co. By 1891 they began the manufacture of steam traction engines and grain threshers. The first steam engines had top mounted engines and were used for both drawbar and belt work. The yellow wood threshers were known to the trade as the Yellow Fellow and were a big part of the company’s business for over thirty years. The catalogs are identical to each other. These catalogs feature detailed descriptions, illustrations and data on the newest and best products the company was selling at the time. The front covers feature the company name, a title and the date it was made. One catalog is bound with red plastic and the other with blue. The red plastic bound catalog's front and back cover are detached and the blue plastic bound catalog's front cover is detached. The catalogs show slight wear and staining from their vintage age, but overall are in good condition. The interior pages of bot catalogs are in good condition with no signs of tears or foxing. The catalogs measure 8 3/8" L x 11 3/4" W.
