Featured in this lot are two Scott Switzer watercolor paintings of Arapaho Native Americans, Brave and Squaw. Scott Switzer was born in Billings, Montana in 1960 and has devoted himself full time to painting since 1981. He received his formal art education in Los Angeles, California from Otis Parsons School of Design, but readily admits that his mentoring under various prominent artists, fellowship with contemporaries, and personal study of art history, added to his own individual victories and failures throughout the 20-year duration of his creative pursuit are the greater contributors to his work. The paintings are meant to be hung next to each other as they are a two piece set. The paintings depict a man, Brave, and his wife, or squaw (as the title suggests) standing in a field for a portrait. The man is wearing a trade blanket of blue, red and white colors and is standing his rifle by his side as he looks towards the viewer. In the background there are some scattered trees and a few birds. In the second painting the woman stands and faces the viewer. She wears traditional Native American clothing made of rawhide and is holding a basket in her left hand. In the background, there are more tress and the flock of birds that is slightly seen in the first painting. Both paintings are set behind glass and sit in identical wood frames. The art measures 12 1/4" L x 9 1/4" W, while the entire piece measures 18 1/2" L x 15 1/2" W.
