The lot features a porcelain enamel sign, “Please! Only you can PREVENT FOREST FIRES” Smokey the Bear sign that is marked, “U.S. Department of Agriculture – Forest Service”. Smokey Bear was adopted by the U.S. Forest Service back in the 1940s as part of their campaign to prevent forest fires. This sign shows a match book with Smokey's face in the forefront. The sign is in preserved with a ding to the right hand side and some chipping to the porcelain with only minor wear to the paint in the corners. Marked in the enamel on the bottom, "U.S. Department of Agriculture – Forest Service / Ande Rooney Inc. Made in U.S.A. 1988 / (STAR) U.S. GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE: 1963-O-704-907 / State Forestry Department”. The porcelain sign measures 11" x 7 ¾”.*
