Included in this lot is a U.S. Johnson Springfield Model 1834 percussion cap .72 caliber musket. This musket saw heavy use in the Civil War and was used by both the Union and Confederate soldiers. The model 1834 was originally a flint lock style musket, but it was converted to a percussion cap in the 1840's to 1850's. They were later replaced by more accurate rifled muskets. This musket displays a hard wood stock, 42" long smooth bore barrel, and percussion cap hammer system. The lock plate is marked "1834 Midden Conn." across the back and "U.S. Johnson" with an eagle insignia. The barrel and lock plate display brass accents where the musket was converted from a flintlock to a percussion cap. The barrel features a warm patina with a single brass front sight and no rear sight. The musket displays a fully three stage hammer with some damage to the percussion nipple. The rifle does show some wear from use and warm patina. This firearm qualifies as an Antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
