Featured in this lot we have a U.S. Springfield Model 1903 sporterized bolt action rifle chambered in .30-06 caliber. The Model 1903, or simply M1903 was adopted as a United States Military service rifle on June 19, 1903, and saw service through WW1, and into WW2. It was still used as a standard issue rifle in World War 2 due to a shortage of the faster-firing, eight round M1 Garand. The M1903A4 remained in occasional service as a sniper rifle into the Vietnam War. As well, the U.S. Navy continued using stock of M1903A3's on board ships as an anti-mine rifle. All M1903's featured a 5 -round magazine, fed by stripper clip. This rifle displays a sporterized stock, sling swivels, adjustable peep rear sight, paired with a blade front sight, 24" long round barrel, and hand polished finish. The rifle is marked on the receiver, in front of the bolt, reading; "U.S. - Springfield - Armory - Model 1903", and the barrel is marked "R.F. SEDGLEY. INC. PHILA. PA. S.A.". The rifle shows good condition overall with some wear due to handling and warm patina with a tight action and crisp trigger. The rifle weighs 8lbs. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
