Featured in this lot are three hanging spring balance scales originating from the early 20th century. The collection consists of three spring balance scales, two Chattillons, and one John Chatillon & sons. The scales show steel and brass construction with one showing a paper face. The scales were used by grocery stores to weigh products sold by weight, such as milk and dairy. The first two are marked "Chatillon's Improved Circular Spring Balance to weigh 60lb by 2 ounces- Milk Scale- Each 20 lb is marked on the slide. The intermediate weights on the circle - New York". The third piece is marked across the face "John Chatillon & Sons New York U.S.A. Improved Spring Balance". The scales show good condition overall with some wear indicative of age and use. They measure from 12 1/4" L x 4 1/4" W x 1 1/2" D to 10 3/4" L x 7" W x 1 7/8" D, and have a collective weight of 6 pounds and 14 ounces.*
