Born in Wisconsin in 1936, artist Vel Miller studied under Hal Reed and Max Turner while a student at the Art League of Los Angeles. A prominent mentor in Miller's career was Joseph De Yong, a renowned historical consultant on American Western films. De Yong's grand tales of the Old West fascinated Miller and inspired her artworks as a painter and sculptor in the style of the Western genre. Miller is an accomplished Western artist who has earned over 40 awards highlighting America's frontier. Her artwork has been featured in magazines, museums, calendars, book covers and has been sold at auctions including Butterfield in San Francisco. This beautiful work of art shows a vibrant forest scene of a red haired woman riding a horse galloping at the edge of the forest. Her red hair and the horse's hair are flowing through the wind showing the movement of the horse. This piece shows beautiful color and brush stroke.
