For your consideration in this lot is a collection of four Venetian clear glass padre trade bead necklaces. The collection consists of two blue beaded necklaces, a mixed color necklace, and a rare cobalt blue necklace with 5 brass medallions. The necklaces are made of padre beads that originate from the early- to mid-19th century. Padre Beads received their name from use as prayer beads among Spanish friars and monks. Padre beads are divided into different sizes; these necklaces are all made of "Crow" size beads, which are an average of 1/4" X 3/8". The first two necklaces are made of clear "Sky Blue" Padre beads with a few green colored beads. One has a 28" circumference and 110 beads; the other has a 24" circumference and 94 beads. Both necklaces are strung on raffia. The next necklace has mixed color Padre beads. The necklace measures 27" in circumference and has 85 beads strung on raffia. The colors on this necklace are shades of green, blue, and amber. The last necklace is made of the rare color, cobalt Padre beads. The necklace measures 25" in circumference and has 99 beads strung on twine. Of the 96 blue beads, there are 3 sets of "Twins". Twin beads are formed when two beads are not fully cut and are still joined as one. There are also 3 cylinder tube beads, two yellow and one red, randomly spaced on this necklace. Finally, there are 5 brass spiral disks in this necklace; the disks average 1" across. The beads and necklaces are in good condition, showing wear expected with their age.
