Featured in this lot is a beautiful verdite carving of a mother and baby elephant done in the 20th century. Verdite is a trade name for a metamorphic rock, primarily composed of the mineral fuchsite (a green variety of muscovite mica) and clay minerals. It is known for its vibrant green color and swirling patterns and is often used as an ornamental stone and in jewelry. This sculpture shows two elephants, a mother and her child, walking around each other. The mother has her trunk curled up towards her face while the baby has their trunk reaching out towards the mother. It shows great attention to detail throughout the piece. It is signed on the bottom near the mother reading, "Stephan Jeica". It shows good condition overall with slight wear present from its use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 7 1/2" L x 17" W x 13" H and weighs 34 pounds and 14 ounces.*
