In this lot there are two (2) antique Victorian era Chatelaine purses. The smaller is a German silver chainmaille coin purse with a two compartment leather interior that would hang on a ladies chatelaine, or belt in the late 1800s and early 1900s, to carry a handerkerchief and coins. They were typically carried by the upperclass and with evening attire. German silver was an alloy used in the late 1800's as a more affordable replacement for silver. This antique coin purse is made of this alloy, and is an extraordinary example of the style of this era. Embossed ornate floral motifs and elongated forms adorn the clasp, while chain and four dangling bead accents add even more eye-catching ornament. This antique accessory is a lovely little piece of history! Stamped "German Silver" on the inside frame, "Kissing" style clasp, rich patina throughout, no damages noted. The larger chainmaille purse is a "Flapper" era styled purse, popular during the 1920s and '30s. Approximately 9"L from the frame and 9"W in the middle, this purse would have been a stand alone style carried with evening attire. Link separation is noted throughout along with rich patina and verdigris.
