Offered in this lot is a Victorian Era Wilcox Silver Company Pickle Castor with Fork and Tree Bark Glass Canister, circa 1870 to 1900. Crafted from quadruple silver plate, the frame features intricate details like fauna and floral engravings, scrolling vines, ball feet, and specialized side hook to hold serving fork. Popular during the late 19th century (primarily between 1870 and 1900), these elegant, ornate items were status symbols used to serve pickles, olives, or relishes at formal dining tables. The Wilcox Silver Plate Co. was an American silverware manufacturer founded in 1865 in Meriden, Connecticut. Famous for its ornate, high-quality Victorian Victorian hollowware, the company became one of the original foundational firms to merge into the International Silver Company in 1898. The famous hallmark features two crossed hammers, encircled by text reading "Wilcox Silver Plate Co." stamped on the base reverse as well as ""Quadruple Plate". This means the item used four times the industry-standard thickness of pure silver coating over the base metal. The fork is stamped on the reverse stem "RW&SA1", the hallmark for R. Wallace & Sons Mfg. Co. The pickle castor, canister and fork are in nicely preserved condition, rich patina observed throughout. Measures 10.125"H x 4.5" x 4.75", collective weight is 2lb, 2oz.
