Featured in this lot is this Vintage Bakers Bird Pie Whistle's circa 1930's. The whistle's feature a wonderfully and professionally crafted porcelain construction that shows one blue and one black. Back then, bakers put small, ceramic, cylindrical or hourglass-shaped funnels in the center of double-crust pies, to release steam. Around the 1930s, ceramics companies in the U.S. started taking artistic liberties, likely drawing on the nursery rhyme, and the vents morphed into whimsical birds with open beaks. The condition of this collection of pie whistles is preserved with a small chip out of the blue ones beak and tail but otherwise are well preserved. The measurements of these birds are 3 7/8" x 1 7/8" x 1 1/2" and 4 1/8" x 2 5/8" x 1 1/2". The collective weight of these pie whistles is U6oz.
