Presented in this lot is this Vintage Herati Pattern Antique Indian Wool Rug, circa 1970s. Provenance: From an ex-Boston area estate collection. The rug features traditional motifs and geometric floral patterns, bright colours of red, blue, green, and a tight weave. The central motif medallion is framed by a diamond shape. A "Herati rug" features the Herati pattern, also known as the mahi or "fish" design, originating from the city of Herat in Afghanistan. The pattern consists of repeated diamonds, each enclosing a rosette or floral element, surrounded by four leaves. Symbolically, the Herati design is believed to bring good luck, fertility, abundance, and protection against evil, representing the sun and the four directions of life's flow. From Herat, the design spread across Persia and other regions, with weavers creating their own interpretation. Indian Bidjar rugs are a type of rug made in India that is named after the original Persian Bidjar design from Iran. Their history is linked to the Mughal Empire, which brought Persian weavers to India to develop the craft in the 16th century. Today, these "Indo Bidjar" rugs are known for their durability and often mimic the firm, dense, and upright pile of their Persian predecessors. The piece shows a wonderful tight weave and fringe at both ends. The rug is in good condition, showing little wear and use. The piece measures 108.5"W x 145.5"L, weight is
