Presented in this lot is this Vintage Indo-Persian Indian Mir Wool Rug, circa 1960s-1970s. Provenance: From an ex-Boston area estate collection. The rug features traditional motifs and geometric floral patterns, vibrant colours of red, blue, olive green, cream/beige in a Boteh Paisley. Mir rugs are a type of Persian rug known for their all-over repeating Boteh (boteh) or "pear" pattern and a large geometric border. These rugs are typically made of high-quality wool, are durable, and are often re-knotted in other countries like India. Boteh is the original Persian name for the teardrop-shaped motif also known as the paisley pattern. Originating in ancient Persia, the design represents the cypress tree and symbols of life, eternity, and fertility. It was later popularized in the West, particularly through the imitation shawls made in the Scottish town of Paisley, which is how it got its common English name.
