For your consideration is a Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Bolo Tie with Turquoise Mountain Turquoise, circa 1970s. This impressive bolo tie features a wonderfully and professionally crafted sterling silver and Turquoise Mountain turquoise construction that shows a triangular shaped large cabochon slide, black braided leather chord with long silver tips with concho ball ends. The bolo tie originated in the American Southwest, evolving from Native American traditions in the 1930s, where Zuni, Hopi, and Navajo men used strings and shell clasps to fasten bandanas, Native American silversmiths crafted intricate versions, The name comes from the boleadora, a South American lasso, and it became a symbol of Western culture, officially recognized by Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. This bolo tie is in very nice condition, braided leather chord is tight, sterling silver has rich patina throughout. Slide measures 1.625"W x 2.25"L, the bolo overall measures 21.5"L from the back of the strand to the tips, collective weight is 43.5gms.
