For your consideration is this vintage, unmarked leather martingale horse collar. In horseback riding, a martingale horse collar is a piece of gear used to help control the horse's head carriage and keep it from elevating its head excessively. It consists of two straps that fasten to the saddle's girth and a third strap that fastens to the horse's noseband. When the horse tries to elevate its head too high, the third strap puts pressure on the horse's nose. This encourages the horse to keep a more upright stance and to drop its head. This martingale collar shows fair condition with the leather showing cracking throughout the collar. The martingale collar measures 64 3/4" L and 2 1/2" W at the chest piece.
