Featured in this lot is a Vintage Zuni Kachina Dancer Multi-Stone Inlay Silver Ring, circa 1970s. Stones include turquoise, coral, spiny oyster and jet. In the Pueblo cultures, Kachina rites are practiced by the Hopi, Hopi-Tewa and Zuni peoples. Kachinas are spirits of the dead who act as intermediaries between humankind and the gods and who bring the clouds and the rain. Some Puebloans, the Hopi among them, believe that the kachinas live on mountaintops, while others, such as the Zuni, believe they live under the lakes. A Kachina has three aspects: the supernatural being, the man who dresses as a Kachina for ritual dances (he becomes the spirit), and the kachina figures given to young girls. Along with the stones, the ring features silver beads and braiding. Kachina is 1.25"L, ring size 5.5, collective weight is 3.5gms.
