For your consideration is this hand carved wood Kachina doll "Hemis", done by Native American Hopi artist Virgil Ashley in the 1990s - 2000s. The Hemis Katsina is a, central figure in Hopi culture, appearing in the midsummer Niman (Home-Going) ceremony to mark the end of the harvest season and bring rain. Known for their elaborate, large tableta headdresses, they symbolize fertility, abundance, and prosperity, often presenting corn and gifts to the community. This Kachina shows colors of yellow, red, cyan, black and white with various sections of fur placed throughout. Felt sections can be seen around the ankles and wrists. The carving is marked on the wood base reading, "Virgil Ashley / Hemis". It shows good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage noted. It measures 5 1/2" L x 6" W x 14 1/4" H and weighs 12 ounces.
