Featured in this lot is this volunteer sword socket flintlock musket bayonet circa 1775-1800. These were made outside of the British Ordnance System for private sale. According to Kennerton's book these dated from 1775-1800. The blade is single edged with a shallow fuller on both sides. The blade is 1 1/4" wide with a horizontal blade orientation that positions the blade edge down when fixed. The condition of this socket sword bayonet is good with some oxidation to the blade and a slight patina adorning the socket itself but otherwise shows good overall condition. The overall measurements of this socket bayonet is 23 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 2 1/2" and the blade length is 19 1/8".
