Featured in this lot is this original pastel painting done by renowned artist William Henry Chandler (1854-1928) circa 1890-1900s. Chandler was an American pastel artist. His works include landscapes, winter landscapes, marine and seascapes. His art was sold through stores nationwide, including Marshall Fields and The May Company. His work is known for its use of lavenders, pinks, and blues, and his light and delicate touch. This painting shows a small, white cottage house in the background while a river runs in front of it and through the valley. In the far background are large, towering mountains, while the foreground shows large, skinny trees and a rocky shore. The bottom left shows the artist's signature reading, "Chandler". The piece is set in a a gold colored frame. The frame shows good condition with wear present from its use over the years showing spots of chipping, but no signs of obvious damage is noted. The artwork shows good condition overall with no wear present. The visible art measures 17 1/2" L x 5 1/2" W, while the entire piece measures 22 3/8" L x 10 1/2" W x 1 1/8" D.
