Featured in this lot is this 1890s-1900s, Wade & Butcher Hollow Ground Razor with bone handle in Sheffield, England. Wade & Butcher, founded in 1818–1820 in Sheffield, England, by William and Samuel Butcher, is a renowned name in straight razors, renowned for high-quality, heavy-duty steel. Partnering with Robert Wade to target the American market, the firm became iconic for large, near-wedge, and hollow-ground razors until production largely ceased in the 1950s. The handle is constructed from carved bone and the blade is marked reading, "The Celebrated Hollow Ground Razor / Manufactured by Wade & Butcher Sheffield". It shows good condition overall with slight wear present with a chip present in the blade, but no other signs of damage is noted. The blade measures 5 5/8" L x 3/4" W, while the handle measures 5 3/8" L x 5/8" W x 3/8" D. When fully opened, it measures a length of 9 1/2" L. It has a total weight of 61.5 grams.
