The American Waltham Watch Company (AWWC) was founded in 1850 in Roxbury, Massachusetts by David Davis, Aaron Dennison, and Edward Howard. The company's original name was the American Watch Company, but it was renamed the AWWC in 1885 and kept that name until 1906. The company produced watches, clocks, speedometers, compasses, and other precision instruments until 1957. The serial number inscribed alongside the movement is numbered, "22209940" showing it was made in 1918. The pocket watch is grade Riverside, 19 jewel, size 16s, model 1908 and features a nickel movement finish and a bridge plate. The watch is railroad graded and features 5 positions. The watch will wind but does not tick. The case it is set in is a 14k gold filled Crescent Watch Case Company case first introduced circa 1899-1917. The case is marked on the interior reading, "C.W.C. Co. / Trade Mark / 2542239 / Crescent 25 Years". The Crescent Watch Case Company was incorporated May 1885 in Brooklyn as a reorganization effort by the Chicago Watch Case Company. It was then sold to Philadelphia Watch Case Company in 1904. he watch shows good overall condition with some slight wear to the case but no obvious signs of damage are present. The watch measures 2 1/16" in diameter and 2 9/16" in height and weighs 102.5 grams.
