Featured in this lot is this War of 1812 Model 1810 U.S. Officer's Saber. This sword would have been worn and used by an United States NCO (Non-commissioned Officer) in the War of 1812. The sword is all brass mounted with a standard "P" hand guard and a very nice dove head pommel. The grip is carved ribbed ivory or bone, and is fully intact with only two small chips on either side. The blade features engraved and gold gilt decoration and an image of a canon, an american flag styled shield, an arrow and pike on one side and more gold gilt decoration on the opposite side. Each side has a fuller towards the spine, with some light engraving on the first 1/3 of the blade. Most of the beautiful "fire blue" finish is present on the first half of the blade, a rare thing to find. The blade features a nice patina and also slight corrosion throughout from its vintage age. The handle is in very good condition still and has a small etched design towards the bottom. The brass components of the hilt are in good condition and show a nice patina. Near the bottom of the spine on the blade there are some indecipherable letters, possibly a makers mark. The sword does not come with the scabbard. The sword measures 35" L x 4 1/2" W at the hilt. The blade measures 30 1/4" L.
