Featured in this lot is this beautiful Waterman 18k gold fountain pen set circa 2000s. Lewis Edson Waterman, an insurance salesman from New York, created the contemporary fountain pen in 1883 after losing a sale due to a leaking pen. Waterman's first pen, The Regular, included a gold nib, wooden accents, and a novel "Three Fissure Feed" method to prevent excessive ink discharge. Waterman patented the pen in 1884 and began selling it from a cigar shop in New York City, with a five-year guarantee. In 1901, Waterman was selling 1,000 pens a day, and his firm, the L.E. Waterman firm, was awarded a Gold Medal of Excellence at the 1900 Paris World Exposition for its "Spoon Feed" method, which prevented ink overflow. This set includes a Waterman fountain pen featuring an 18k gold tip, as well as a Waterman pall point pen. The set also includes a booklet giving details on the history and care instructions, 8 refill cartridges and one converter. The pens come in a blue box reading, "Waterman Paris" in gold gilt lettering and are held down by a white ribbon. They are set on a small white pad that can be removed from the box to reveal the extra contents of the box. The pens and box show good condition overall with no wear or damage present. The pens measure 5 11/16" L to 5 7/16" L, while the box measures 3 1/2" L x 6 5/8" W x 1 5/8" H. The box and pens have a collective weight of 10 ounces.
