For your consideration in this lot are two vintage books depicting life in the American West. The first book is “The Man in the Forest” by Zane Grey, an American author and dentist, whose romantic novels of the American West largely created a new literary genre, the western; he idealized the American frontier. This hard cover is a 1920 1st edition from Grosset & Dunlap. The book does not appear to have been read as pages do not show normal wear from reading. The pages are yellowed due to aging; none appear torn, though it appears the red hard cover was once wet and there is red ink bled along the page edges. The second book is the Western compilation, “Apache Gold and Yaqui Silver”, by J. Frank Dobie. "The most adept and colorful raconteur of the folklore of Texas and Southwest" is what J. Forrest McCutcheon says about J. Frank Dobie, a cowman, author, college professor, treasure hunter, Guggenheim fellow, and visiting lecturer to Cambridge University in England. The book appears to be in good condition with normal yellowing due to age; the pages and cover appear intact and sans damage; dust jacket has tears and is affixed to inside of the hard cover with tape. The books measure approximately 7.5" L x 5" W x 1.25" D and 9" L x 6" W x 1.5" D respectively.
