For your consideration is a Western and Montana Art Books Collection. Included is "The Painting Lady Grace Carpenter Hudson by Searles R. Boynton D.D.S., "Charles M. Russell" by Frederick G. Renner, and, "The Charles M. Russell Book" by Harold McCracken. Grace Carpenter Hudson was known for painting over 600 portraits, mainly of Pomo Indians living near her in the Ukiah, California area. Her style was sympathetic and poignant, as she portrayed domestic native scenes that would have been fast disappearing in that time. Charles Russell, also known as C. M. Russell, Charlie Russell, and "Kid" Russell, was an American artist of the American Old West, creating more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Native Americans, and landscapes set in the western United States and in Alberta, Canada in addition to bronze sculptures. He is known as "the cowboy artist" and was also a storyteller and author. He became an advocate for Native Americans in the west, supporting the bid by landless Chippewa to have a reservation established for them in Montana. In 1916, Congress passed legislation to create the Rocky Boy Reservation. The C. M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana houses more than 2,000 Russell artworks, personal objects, and artifacts. Other major collections are held at the Montana Historical Society in Helena, Montana and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming. These books are a great addition for anyone drawn to the culture, history, and folklore of the American Frontier, popularly known as the Wild West. The cloth bound gold gilt hardcover books are in very nice condition, original illustrated paper dust jackets have slight marring. Intact pages exhibit very slight age tanning. Books measure 10.25"W x 13.25"L x .875"D, 12.25"W x 12.75"L x 1"D, 10.5"W x 13.5"L x 1"D. Combined weight is 12lb, 10oz.
