For your consideration in this lot is a very nice resin reproduction of a scrimshawed Sperm whale tooth. This unique piece features an incredibly detailed etching of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson on one side and the HMS Victory, Nelson’s ship, on the other side. The tooth has gorgeous patina which makes it look like a real tooth. Cracks are also present like in real teeth. Scrimshaw reproductions such as this one are very realistic and thus becoming very collectible. Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté, KB (1758 – 1805) was a British flag officer in the Royal Navy. He was noted for his inspirational leadership, strategy, and unconventional tactics. These traits together resulted in a number of decisive British naval victories, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. He was fatally shot during his victory at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
