Presented in this lot is a Vintage Taxco Sterling Silver Turquoise Cross Pendant Necklace, circa mid to late 20th century. Taxco is a small town situated in the mountains of Mexico, boasting a rich history in the jewelry-making industry. The city is renowned for its beautiful silver creations, which have captivated collectors and enthusiasts for many years. Jewelry from Taxco became internationally famous for the quality of its design, workmanship, and high silver content. The necklace features a professionally and wonderfully crafted petit point cross pendant design with Bisbee turquoise bezel setting stones and silver beads. The sterling silver solid cable chain clasp is stamped "Italy" and "925", reverse of cross is stamped, "MEXICO" and "925MWS". The "MWS" designation is for William Spratling,an American-born silver designer and artist, best known for his influence on 20th century Mexican silver design, “The Father of Contemporary Mexican Silver” and one of the most important designers of 20th century jewelry. Rich patina exhibited throughout. Cross measures 1.25"W x 2.25"L, total length is 14.25"L. Collective weight is 23.5gms.
