This is a Winchester Model 1873 octagon barrel rifle chambered in 32 Caliber, serial number 193301B, manufactured in 1885 with Annie Oakley engraving. This is the classic “Gun That Won the West!” in a nice preserved frontier used condition, this 134 year old Winchester displays a fine aged chocolate blue patina on the receiver with deep patina blue’d barrel. The 20” octagon barrel and magazine tube retain clear Winchester markings along with an attractive aged finish. All original wood displays the desirable tight wood to metal fitting around the upper and lower tangs indicating that it has not been replaced. It retains a smooth action and nice springs. The sliding dust cover on the receiver top is original (these usually found missing or replaced). The brass lifter on the bottom of the receiver is un-polished and shows an attractive mellow patina. The lever catch is also intact. This fine target caliber Model 1873 is engraved on the lock blade with a five-point star and in script, “Annie Oakley”. The previous owner claimed the firearm to have been used by Annie Oakley during her time as the premier American sharpshooter and exhibition shooter for the Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show (this provenance is not confirmed, but the engraving remains). Even the bore retains good rifling throughout. The buckhorn rear sight and blade front sight are Winchester original and have been on the rifle since it left the Winchester warehouse. The Model 1873 was the standard for lever actions throughout the Frontier Period in the west which, in some areas like Montana, lasted well into the twentieth century. Most surviving specimens show heavy use and often abuse with broken or missing parts. The rifle qualifies as an Antique Long Gun, and does NOT require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 193301B.
