Included for you in this lot is an exceptional example of an original Winchester 1886 Extra Lightweight Sporting Rifle, chambered in smokeless powder, .33 Winchester Center Fire (WCF). The Winchester 1886 was one of John Moses Browning's strongest and most reliable designs. This example is of a late production date of 1902. The rifle was incredibly desirable in the West, where a repeating rifle capable of handling the largest and most powerful cartridges of the day was a must. One of the most notable fans of the Model 1886 was Theodore Roosevelt himself, whose presidential term ran through the middle of production for the Model 1886. The rifle shows a gorgeous walnut butt-stock and fore-grip, a 24" blue'd round barrel, and a standard tube magazine. Since the old black powder cartridges were quickly becoming obsolete, Winchester found good reason to develop a more advance projectile. In 1902, Winchester brought out the .33 WCF specifically for the 1886. The incredibly popular round was simply the .45-70 case, necked down to accept .338" diameter jacketed bullets. The rifle is marked "Model 1886" on the upper tang, "PAT. OCT. 14. 1884 - JAN. 20. 1885" on the lower grip, and "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven, CONN. U.S.A. – Nickel Steel Barrel Especially for Smokeless Powder .33 W.C.F." on the barrel to the left of the rear sight. Overall, the 118 year old rifle shows very good condition, with excellent screw heads, fantastic finish on the walnut butt-stock and fore-grip, a tight action, and tight metal to wood fit. The bore also shows fantastic, bright condition. The barrel shows 90%+ finish, while the receiver shows closer to 60%-70% blue'd finish. Serial Number: 127467. This is a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background check.
