For your consideration is this print of a 1908 Winchester shells advertisement. The print was supposed to be a humorous portrayal of a skunk being prodded out of a hollow log. An African-American father and his son, along with their dog, are reacting to the skunk as it emerges from the log and raises its tail; ironically their shotgun is propped against the log, just out of reach. At the top of the print in skeleton lettering is "Winchester Loaded Shotgun Shells". At the bottom of the print in skeleton lettering is "Shoot Them and Avoid Trouble". The picture is flanked by "The W Brand" logo. When the advertisement was originally released in 1908 it proved to be too controversial because of the misinterpreted tag line. Winchester recalled them to trim of the wording. Later in 1936 they were re-released with just the image. This is a reproduction of the original. It is in an attractive gilded wood frame and measures 43.5" x 36". It is in excellent condition.
