Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine in desirable, big .38-40 caliber, made in 1919. This carbine with serial number 895892 has been totally and completely professionally restored with no expense spared in making this Winchester appear today as it did when it left the factory 100 years ago! Some of the main differences between a simply refinished firearm and a correct, full restoration is that on most refinished arms, all parts are simply blue'd. On a true restoration, only parts that left the Winchester factory blued are finished in blue. Parts that were originally case colored/case hardened are given this same case color finish in a restoration. Also, in a quality restoration all original markings are left readable without over-buffing these important metal surfaces. In this case the lever and hammer are beautifully case colored, as it was when it was newly manufactured. Attention to detail is evident in the work done on this carbine as even the locking lugs visible in the top of the receiver have been polished bright with no blue applied as is totally correct. The receiver, barrel, butt plate, barrel bands and magazine tube are all deeply blued. Everything, right down to the screws and saddle ring have been carefully and expensively restored. The walnut stock and forearm display a wonderful luster and grain quality with all wood to metal parts fitting closely and tight. To top it all off, the bore is flat out mint and bright with sharp rifling and a mirror appearance! The carbine is equipped with a period correct “D. W. King” marked buckhorn rear sight that is adjustable for elevation and drift-adjustable for windage. The front sight is of the correct standard Winchester issue. This is as close to a brand new Winchester manufacture 1892 large caliber Saddle Ring Carbine as one could ever hope to find. A full restoration by itself, like on this carbine, can easily run into the thousands of dollars to achieve.
