For sale in this lot is a fine example of a Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action, Repeating Rifle. The rifle shows a full octagon 26" barrel, and is chambered in .32-40 Winchester. The Model 1894, designed by the renowned John Browning, is heralded by historians such as R. L. Wilson and Hal Herring as being the "ultimate lever-action design", and was one of the most famous hunting rifles of all time. The Mod. 94 was the first commercial American repeating rifle to be used with smokeless powder cartridges. This rifle is a particularly fine example, manufactured in 1910, it shows fine aged blueing on the barrel, and full tube-magazine, with a rich walnut fore-grip, and butt-stock which shows a solid steel crescent butt-plate. Additionally, the rifle utilizes an adjustable buckhorn rear sight, and an original blade front sight. The rifle is marked in numerous places, reading; "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. - New Haven. CONN. U.S.A. - Patented August 21. 1894." on the left side of the barrel, in front of the rear sight, "32-40" on the left side of the barrel, in front of the receiver, "76" just in front of the trigger, "560092" in front of the trigger assembly, and "Model 1894 - Winchester - Trade Mark REG. IN U.S. Pat. Off." on the upper-tang. Overall, the rifle shows very-good aesthetic and mechanical condition, with a bright bore, with strong rifling, a tight action, aged blueing, and good walnut fixtures, with slight wear from age and use. This rifle qualifies as a Curio & Relic Long Gun, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 560092.
