The Winchester Model 1902 is a .22 caliber single-shot bolt-action sporting rifle designed by John and Matthew Browning in 1899. One of John Browning's last designs for Winchester before his eventual falling out with the company, the Model 1900 was one of Winchester's first attempts at a simple single-shot bolt-action rifle. In 1899, Winchester wanted to market a simple and affordable .22 caliber rifle for use in hunting small game or just for recreational shooting. Then-Winchester employee, John Browning, and his brother, Matthew, designed a weapon for this purpose, with Winchester buying the design in 1899 from Browning. This single shot bolt action rifle is chambered in .22 Short and utilizes a2 18” round barrel. The barrel uses a dovetailed front and rear sight. The barrel is struck “Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven, Conn. U.S.A. Patented August 29. 1988. Mod. 1902 – 22 Short, Long or Extra Long – Winchester Trademark Reg.
