The lot features five original Winold Reiss (1886-1953) Blackfeet Montana artwork from the Great Northern Railway Empire Builder large calendar toppers from the 1940-1950’s. Winold Reiss (1886-1953) was a German-born American artist, he immigrated to the United States in 1913 to follow his passion for Native Americans and by 1920 he went West to spend time on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana outside of Glacier National Park, creating more than 250 artworks depicting the people of the Blackfeet. The lot features five original Winold Reiss Great Northern calendar topper artworks. The first is from 1946 and shows "Dancing Boy - Blackfeet Indian" sitting on the ground and holding a dance rattle. The second is from 1949 and shows "Tom Dawson - Mountain Man" wearing a raccoon hat and holding a rifle. The third is undated and shows "Clears Up - Blackfeet Brave" sitting on the ground holding a dance or war club as he looks towards the right of the viewer. The fourth shows, "Spider - Blackfeet Indian Song And Dance Man" in a portrait style as he looks to the left of the viewer. The fifth and final topper is also undated and is titled, "Sun Dance". The man pictured is holding a drum and dancing as he sings. He wears a large headdress and rawhide garments around his waist. The toppers show good to fair condition with wear present such as roughed corners and edges and slight tears and rips, but no major signs of damage is noted. They measure from 22 3/4" L x 13 1/4" W to 14 3/4" L x 10 1/8" W. They have a collective weight of under 6 ounces.
