For your consideration is this rare copy of "Wonderful Adventures of Stanley", by J.T. Headley, W. B. Conkey Company Publishers, Chicago, 1899. From the title page: From His First Entrance Into The Dark Continent In Search Of Livingstone. A Most Authentic And Thrilling Recital Of His Noble, Daring Adventures, Wonderful Discoveries, And Signal Triumphs In Opening Up A Vast Continent Of Untold Wealth To The Civilized World Prepared from Stanley's own fragmentary writings." Filled with over 100 illustrations, this book is the third follow up by Headley to his first book that mentioned Stanley, "The Achievements of Stanley and Other African Explorers 1878. Sir Henry Morton Stanley GCB (1841-1904) was a Welsh-American explorer, journalist, soldier, colonial administrator, author and politician who was famous for his exploration of Central Africa and his search for missionary and explorer David Livingstone. Besides his discovery of Livingstone, he is mainly known for his search for the sources of the Nile and Congo rivers, the work he undertook as an agent of King Leopold II of Belgium which enabled the occupation of the Congo Basin region, and his command of the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition. This grey cloth bound hardcover book is in good overall condition, the the gold gilt illustration stamped cover is solid, spine is loose, scuffing noted to cover edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning throughout, front and rear endpapers are loose from spine, no other obvious marring noted. Measures 6"W x 9"L x 1.5"D
