Offered in this lot is a British Mark 1 helmet from WWI (1914-1918) and a WWII Navy Martin Machete with canvas sheath. The helmet is a British Mark 1 (Brodie) and is identified as such by two items. The chin strap bales are attached to the helmet by a split rivet. The American bail is secured to the helmet’s skirt with a steel harness rivet. The British helmet also had an upgrade that was never adopted by the Americans. The British Mark I has a rubber ring, sometimes called a doughnut, sewn between two pieces of wool in the base of the helmet dome. The doughnut was added for the wearer’s comfort. The second item is a World War II (1939-1945) Martin Belgium-made machete with MK2 canvas sheath, used by the US Navy. This machete measures 22 3/4". The blade has been sharpened many times. The handle is tight and has brass rivets. The sheath is stained but features no rips or tears. The sheath has a belt loop and is marked ‘U.S.N. MK2’. These items show wear expected from age and use; please see photographs for assessment.
