For your consideration is an Original Signed Oil on Canvas, "Passing Clouds Over Otter Cliff Acadia" by Xiangyuan Jie, signature noted on bottom left corner. Otter Cliff, in Acadia National Park, Maine, is one of the most spectacular sights along the North Atlantic Seaboard. On the east side of the Park Loop Road, is the famous 110 foot high Otter Cliff - one of the highest Atlantic coastal headlands north of Rio de Janeiro. One of the most noticeable features in most photos of Otter Cliff, along with the headland itself, are the thousands of rounded boulders in the foreground that are in the small cove immediately to the north. Over countless centuries, the rocks have been pounded by the sea and eroded by both water and against each other after being deposited by huge glaciers that once moved across the land here on the island. When the light is low on the horizon, the warm sunlit sides on the left contrast with the cool shadow sides on the right and these rounded shapes contrast further with the rugged and weathered vertical granite cliffs set ablaze by the rising sun. The viewing of this can quicken the heart and and mind, creating lasting impressions of millennium condensed into one's own life. A Chinese painter, born in Hunan province, now living in Florida, Jie originally studied theatre set design and graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing with a BFA in that specialty, to which, in a way, he would later come full circle as a background artist for animated films such as Mulan, Tarzan Lilo and Stitch, and Brother Bear to name a few. He taught for several years at Hunan University and then traveled and lectured in Europe as a visiting scholar. He eventually settled in the U.S., taught at Auburn University as a visiting professor and later studied and taught at the College of Architecture at Georgia Tech. Jie is an accomplished plein air painter, painting in a wonderfully open and colorful style informed by the early work of Impressionist inspired painters from Europe, Russia and the US, including arguably the greatest figure in American Impressionism and among the best portrait artists of the late 19th and early 20th century, John Singer Sargent. Provenance on the bottom of wood stretcher states, Passing Clouds Over Otter Cliff. Acadia Xiangyuan Jie 914-320-6843 This oil painting is in very fine condition, no marring noted. The gold gilt hardwood frame is in good overall condition, no obvious marring noted. Visual art measures 23.5"W x 29.5"L, frame is 32.25"W x 38.25"L
