For your consideration are two, hand painted and hand carved wood Hopi Shalako Kachinas from the late 20th century. The Hopi and Zuni pueblos receive rain, fertility, and blessings from the strong, seven to eight-foot-tall messenger spirits shown in these wood-carved figures. The tallest one shows a yellow face with a multi-colored body of geometric designs and hand tooling. It is set on a circular wood base and is signed on the bottom reading, "Sun Face / R". The second shows an almost identical design but is much smaller and shows a multi-colored face. The body shows colors of red, blue, white, green and brown and sits on a circular wood base with a hand tooled brick design. It is signed on the bottom reading, "Henis B.S.". The two pieces show good condition overall with little wear present and no signs of damage noted. The tallest measures 2 7/8" L x 3 1/8" W x 15 3/8" H, while the smaller one measures 2 5/8" L x 2 3/4" W x 6 3/4" H. They have a collective weight of 10 ounces.
